Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026 · Applies to the GEOBoost Chrome extension
1. Who we are
GEOBoost is a Chrome browser extension that analyses web pages for Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) — readiness for AI-powered search engines and large-language-model citation. The extension is developed and maintained by:
GEOBoost

2. Data we process — and where it stays
All data processed by GEOBoost is stored locally on your device using the Chrome browser's built-in chrome.storage.local API. Nothing is transmitted to any server, analytics service, or third party.
| Data | Why it is stored | Where | Sent externally? |
|---|---|---|---|
| URL of the page you scan | To display scan history and enable score-over-time tracking | chrome.storage.local | No |
| GEO score and category scores | To show historical score trends per URL | chrome.storage.local | No |
| Display preferences (dark/light theme, UI language) | To remember your preferred look and language across sessions | chrome.storage.local | No |
| Page content (headings, meta tags, text, structured data) | To compute the GEO score — processed in memory only, never stored | Browser memory only | No |
We do not collect your name, email address, IP address, browsing history, or any other personal identifiers.
3. Permissions used and why
GEOBoost requests the following Chrome permissions:
| Permission | Reason |
|---|---|
activeTab |
To read the content of the tab you are currently viewing, so GEOBoost can analyse it. Only active when you click "Scan". |
scripting |
To inject the analysis script into the current tab to extract page data (headings, meta tags, structured data, etc.). No persistent scripts are installed. |
storage |
To save your preferences and scan history locally on your device. |
tabs |
Used by the Bulk Scan feature to list and scan multiple open tabs at once. Tab URLs are only used for the scan and are never stored externally. |
4. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
Where the GDPR applies, the legal basis for processing is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): the data is processed solely to provide you with the GEO analysis functionality you explicitly requested by installing and using the extension. No processing is done beyond what is strictly necessary for that purpose.
Because all processing takes place locally on your own device and no personal data is transmitted externally, the practical privacy impact is minimal.
5. Data retention
Data stored by GEOBoost (scan history and preferences) remains in your browser's local storage until you:
- Uninstall the GEOBoost extension (Chrome automatically deletes all associated storage), or
- Clear your browser's extension storage manually (via Chrome settings → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data).
We do not impose an automatic expiry on locally stored data, as only you control your own device.
6. Data sharing and third parties
GEOBoost does not:
- Send data to any server operated by us or third parties;
- Use Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Sentry, or any other analytics or error-reporting service;
- Sell, rent, or share any data with advertisers or data brokers;
- Load any remote scripts or resources at runtime.
All extension code runs entirely offline from the installed package. No network requests are made by the extension itself.
7. Your rights under GDPR
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights regarding your data:
- Right of access — you can view all data stored by the extension at any time by opening Chrome DevTools → Application → Extension Storage.
- Right to erasure — uninstalling the extension permanently deletes all data.
- Right to data portability — you can export your scan history as a PDF report using the built-in export feature.
- Right to object — you can stop all processing by uninstalling the extension.
Because no personal data is held by us (it is held only by you, on your own device), most GDPR rights are already exercised directly by you without needing to contact us.
If you have concerns or questions, please contact us at rowanv21@gmail.com.
8. Children's privacy
GEOBoost is designed for web developers and digital marketers. It is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy when the extension's functionality changes. Material changes will be announced via a Chrome Web Store update note. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
